- This research is about modifying Islamic English Animation Movie (IENAVI) as a Media in Vocabulary Teaching for Junior High Schools. This research was carried out because in reality junior high schools did not have an attractive medium for teaching vocabulary. The aim is to more comfortable in learning and for teaching vocabulary in reading comprehension. Therefore, the medium of teaching vocabulary with a different look that met their learning needs to be made. It is recommended that teaching materials meet the needs of students. The method used in this research was Design Research implementing the design model proposed by Akker, et al (2013). There were three phases in this model: Preliminary Study, Development Phase, and Assessment Phase. The results obtained were as follows. First, the learning needs identified are: (1) junior high school students need interesting media to teaching vocabulary in reading comprehension, (2) the reading material needed for English animation movie is content that provides Islamic values, for the media researchers focus more on learning objects, and there are 7 vocabulary words that are categorized as target vocabulary that must appear in the story, (3) In addition, small group implementation and interview with the English teacher were observed to assess the implementation and quality of Islamic English animation movie (I-ENAVI). In the second, the assessment of middle school students responds well as indicated by the results of the questionnaire and therefore it could be said that this design as interesting animation, in term of color, subtitles (Indonesian) and stories.
