- The use of media in teaching speaking is impotant. Lack of teaching media may make the students faced difficulties, they need new media so they can enjoy the learning process. This current research was conducted to design a teaching medium for teaching speaking on narrative texts for tenth grade students.. The Hannafin and Peck in Isman, Caglar, Dabaj and Ersozlu (2005) Model was a three phase process. In the first phase, a needs assessment was performed. This phase was followed by a design phase. In the third phase, instruction was develop and implement.Based on interview with the teacher, the needs could be identified as follow: the teacher only used video for teaching speaking and the activities used was repeatation, hand puppet can be applied in the class, the material used appropriate to the hand puppet is narrative text and the content is the legend of Malin Kundang. After getting information about the needs, the product was designed and developed based on them. After the prototype was created it was then validated by an expert. In general, the expert‟s sugestion was to make the card size and fonts in the card larger, then, addition the card instruction. The final stage was done through an assessment conducted by the teacher's observation and students' responses. After getting the result of teacher's observation, the implementation was assessed: students do interaction, students utter the narrative correctly, all players involve actively, and students enjoy to play EPUGA. The final product looked like the following: the media was attractive and interesting, the content was appropriate,the medium was able to help learning speaking, creative and suitable with the students‟ material, the rule and procedures were understanable Keywords: Needs Analysis, Teaching reading, EPUGA (English Puppet Game).
