- Nowadays, English become an important subject of study because the language is used internationally. Thus, the study of English language has significant affect towards students whose native language is not English. One of the effects that this study is focuss on is in bilingualism and multilingualism, specifically, the phenomena of code-mixing. According to Muysken (2000), there are three types of code mixing; Insertion which is lexical borrowing or insertion of code, Alternation which is a switch from one language to the other involving both grammar and lexicon, and Congruent Lexicalization which is a share of materials from different lexical inventories. The data for this study were collected through transcript analysis method of communications between students of English Language Education program through WhatsApp chatting platform. While communicating the writer transcripted the chats to be used as data for this study. Then that transcription is put into some categorization based on Muysken’s theory (2000) regarding the typology of code-mixing. The result of this study divided into two parts; first is the chitation of the phenomena of code mixing that is happening in the chats and second is the ranking of the occurrences of code-mixing from the most commonly used to the least commonly used.
