  • The objectives of this study are : Firstly, to determine the weight ratio of orange peel (Citrus sp.) and coconut shell (Cocos nucifera L.) charcoal as an adsorbent in the wastewater treatment of liquid waste cosmetic industry according to Perda Jateng No.10 in 2004. Secondly, to determine the effectiveness of the weight ratio of orange peel and coconut shell charcoal in the decreasing physico-chemical parameters of cosmeticliquid waste. Thirdly, to determine the isotherm adsorption model of the weight ratio of orange peel and coconut shell charcoal. Data were analyzed by Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with 3 treatments and 9 replications. As the treatments were various weight ratios of orange peel and cococut shell charcoal, which were: 2.5:2.5 ; 3:2 and 4.5:0.5 (w/w), respectively. To test the differences between treatment means, the Honestly Significant of Differences (HSD) test was used using 5% level of significant. The result of this study showed that the addition of 2.5 g orange peel could decrease the quality standard parameters of TSS, TDS, COD, and Pband 4.5 g was to decrease the content of As in period of contact time 240 minutes.The optimal weight of the addition of coconut shell charcoal 0.5 g could decrease the quality standard of the parameters of TDS, COD, As, and Pb levels in period of contact time 300 minutes. However, TSS did not yet fulfil the quality standard requirement in the range of coconut shell charcoal weight between 0.5 – 2.5 g. Specifically, pH increased in parallel with the increasing weight of orange peel 2.5 to 4.5 g and reach the quality standard on the addition of 0.5 g coconut shell charcoal. Effectiveness of treatment with orange peel in lowering physico-chemical parameters ofcosmetic liquid waste was ranging from 3.82% to 88.65%, whereas the effectiveness of coconut shell charcoal was 0.56% - 91.08%. The adsorption isotherm model of the addition of orange peel to TSS, pH, As, and Pb followed the Langmuir and Freundlich models, and COD followed the Langmuir adsorption model with maximum capacity (Cm) ranged between 0.01mg/g – 55.56 mg/g. The addition of coconut shell charcoal for TSS and As followed the Langmuir and Freundlich, pH and COD followed the Langmuir, whereas Pb followed the Freundlich with maximum capacity (Cm) ranged between 0.03 mg/g – 83.33 mg/g.
