- Face detection is a technique that enables computers to automatically determine th location of human faces in acbitrary (digital) images. This technique detects features closely assosiated to human facial areas and rejects other areas, such a buildings, trees and other parts of the body, that do not exhibit these features. In this paper, we present a face detection system based on a modified Schneiderman-Kanade method. Our system is designed to be able to detect frontal and profile facial areas. The visual attributes used to identify these areas are derived from wavelet coeffisients of the training samples. Our experiments show taht the proposed system is capable of achieving a detection rate of up to 80%.
