- In recent years, the role of culture has been an issue in language teaching and learning English in a foreign context and teachers today are expected to promote the acquisition of intercultural competence in their learner. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the perceptions of English teachers toward the cultural aspects in the course books used at Senior High Schools in Salatiga through their intercultural competence. Data were collected through depth-interviewing. The participants were 4 teachers at four Senior High Schools in Salatiga. It consisted of 1 male teacher and 3 female teachers. The major finding of this study revealed that Indonesian culture still take a major part in culture implementation in the course books. However, target language culture and international culture are also being taught in class as a comparison to make a clearer understanding for students and increase their cultural awareness.
