- Indonesia is still an endemic area for malaria. The presence of plasmodium resistance to quinine-based treatment requires new anti-malaria drugs. Artemisinin from Artemisia promises a new hope as an alternative source of malaria medicine. Artemisia cina Berg ex Poljakov is a species from Artemisia that grows as a weed in Indonesia and contains artemisinin as an antimalarial. The problem is that the artemisinin content in A. cina is very small so efforts need to be made to increase the content. Clone repair through breeding by means of genetic manipulation and improvement of technical culture is one strategy that can be used in an effort to increase the artemisinin content in A. cina as an A. cina variety production with agronomic characters and high artemisinin content. The purpose of this study was to determine the agronomic characters of nine genotypes (genotypes A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I) obtained from polyploidy induction using colchicines. The results of this study showed that agronomic characters for leaf area, chlorophyll content were not significantly different between genotypes, whereas for agronomic characters the shoot dry weight showed that I genotype was significantly higher than other genotypes. The agronomic character of glandular trichoma density showed that I genotype was higher than other genotypes. Genotypes F, H, I have high artemisinin content compared to other genotypes, but genotype I shows higher artemisinin weight than other genotypes.
