  • Karanggede Sub-district is a food source support area for Boyolali District. Soybean productivity in Karanggede Sub-district, Boyolali District is lower than the national target. Increasement of soybean productivity needs to be based on land suitability evaluation. The purpose of the study was to assess the characteristics of land and determine the suitability class of land for soybean (Glycine max (L) Merill) in Karanggede Sub-district. Land suitability evaluation requires assessment of land characteristics. Land characteristics data obtained from observation, literature study, and laboratory analysis. The land suitability class is determined by matching between the growing conditions of soybean plant with land characteristics data. The matching process uses an extension builder model by scoring each land characteristic. The results showed that Karanggede Sub-district consist of 45.43% S1 class area (2154.14 ha) and 54.57% S2 class area (2587.36 ha). Limiting faktors for soybean are drainage, solum depth, C-organic, slope and surface rock. The recommended treatment of limiting faktors in the Karanggede Sub-district are the addition of organic matter and soil plowing.
