  • The rite manuba ba adat is a series of activities the rite manugal (cultivate an unirrigated field) which has meaning ask for rain by killing or make a unconscious fish by using the tuba root. Community ask for rain because they have finished planting rice. This activity is only done once a year is in September when the community completed cultivate an unirrigated field. Community have the belief that if they are do not implement this activities, the people will experience crop failure. In the implementation of activities the rite Manuba Ba adat has custom rules and knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation by their ancestors. This study was conducted based on the assumption that the indigenous communities that the rite manuba ba adat provide contribution in the context of sustainable development. This research was conducted in the village of Batu tunggal where activities the rite Manuba Ba adat always done every year routinely, still executed properly and managed properly by custom. The purpose of this paper is to answer the problem formulation, that describe what is happening in the rites Manuba Ba adat and how t his rite activities are managed so as to support ecological sustainability. The method used in the writing of this study was to use descriptive research, qualitative approach, the process of data collection is to use techniques PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal). The theory used is the theory of the concept of local knowledge, the concept of the rite, the concept of social capital and the concept of sustainable development. The results showed that 1). In the implementation of activities rite Manuba Ba adat has procedures, norms and preparation was done so that this rite procession can run properly in accordance with the knowledge that has been passed down by the ancestors. 2). Sustainability of the activities rite Manuba Ba adat supported by community participation and collective action are based on the existing social capital inside indigenous communities. Where in it there is an element of trust, cooperation and norms. 3). In the context of sustainable development, Manuba Ba Adat rites contributes to the aspects of Sustainable ecology.
