Since self reflection is necessary to improve pre-service teachers’ professional identity, they need an effective and efficient tool to support their reflection. This study investigates the use of video recording to facilitate self-reflection that is commonly used in the development of digital era. Specifically, it is aimed to analyze the superiority and the use of video recording that can help students’ reflect on their teaching because there are only few studies in this kind of research. Besides that, it is important to make video recording more effectively used for reflection to help preservice teachers develop their professional identities and skills. This research used qualitative analysis method and two microteaching classes in the Faculty of Language and Literature Satya Wacana Christian University as the respondents. The students who had been assigned to write journals of reflection in the course, were interviewed as the video-based group and the memory-based group members.Based on the journal analysis and the interview data, the findings show that video recording facilitates reflection better than memorization. Furthermore, all interviewed respondents from both groups prefer to use video recording to facilitate self reflection.
