- Cohesion is the relationship among sentences in the text. The text is concidered text is cohesive, it is automatically coherence. There are two cohesive ties devises; grammatical and lexical cohesive devises. Grammatical cohesive ties devise are; reference, conjunction, ellipsis, and substitution, whereas lexical cohesive devises are; synonym, antonym, meronym, hyphonym, and repetition. This Study aims at investigating cohesive ties devices in the writing of the students in semester 3 of English Education Department. The method is qualitative research. The result shows that the students’ writing were not arranged in good cohesion and coherence.
