  • The English speaking is very important for students for students can express their idea in English. In junior high school, the teacher must choose the technique for student’s to express their ideas and give information for another people with English. One of Small Group Discussion, a teacher uses a technique for teaching speaking and gives information for students. In teaching speaking by using Small Group Discussion, the teacher must know steps of discussion. The purposes of the research are: (i) to know the students speaking ability after being taught by using Small Group Discussion (ii) to find out the students response about using Small Group Discussion in teaching speaking. The research methods are qualitative and quantitative research. In the research, the writer used class activities to acquire result of data in teaching speaking. The writer used action research procedure. Those are planning, action, observing, and reflecting. Based on the data analysis during three cycles, the writer can conclude that three is increases students speaking activity in every cycle shows that the students speaking ability in every cycle. The average score on first cycle shows that the students speaking ability is not good. While the second, the score of students speaking ability is increased. The finally cycle is average (mean) the score of speaking is advanced. To be better in speaking English, the students should be practiced speak English every time. The teacher is only a motivator and organizer in a discussion, and the students self must active. The method have purpose to increase the students speaking ability.
