- The objective of this presentation is to show some results of my PhD research project since 29 September 2003 until today (29 June 2007). It covers a profile of the major features, issues, problems and needs of the people from the community of Broomhall, in Sheffield, UK and how inside/outside information providers satisfy and solve those needs and issues. It employs qualitative research methodology and qualitative methods of: observation, interviews, focus groups, and documental analysis. The major community needs and isues found were: * Negative effects of housing development. * Unemployment. * Insufficient health provision .* Multiculturalism. * Social and educational exclusion. * Insufficient information provision by statutory and voluntary and community sectors. It also highlights the implications this research has for the Mexican scenarios where as of today none empirical research is carried out on the Mexican library communities of readers where community profiling be employed as a tool for analysis of readers’ communities. These results are not expected to be replicated elsewhere. But it is highly expected that from this project that all Mexican libraries and all documental information institutions improve their information provision if the methodologies employed here are replicated, thus science, technology, culture and leisure would be freely accessible for all Mexicans for their cognitive, cultural and scientific enlightening. The author is very thankful to the Mexican National Council of Science and Technology for funding completely this project and encourages CONACYT to support more empirical scientific research in whichever areas for the betterment of Mexican society.
