- The called ‘information society’ has been characterized by the impressive phenomenon of information grow, where series of interrelated processes are happening as parts of information and communications technology developments and applications. Within this context, thousand and million of people are connected to Internet, seeking or looking for information. The websites created everyday are huge and more often oriented to supply client-based needs. Thus, to any organisation it is extremely important to create and maintain updating websites as a mirror of their comparative and competitive advantages. This paper explores the PHPNuke case study as strategic tool to create open source website applications. PHPNuke is one of the most used software among the industry. In addition, the paper focuses in methodological aspects on portal web design as well as advices on installing process by the time of creating a Web gateway.
