- The year 2000 computer system compliance issue will inevitably influence several of the functions of the Academic Libraries. The talk will focus on 3 main areas: • the definition of the problem • the analysis of the potential consequences concerning: • embedded electronic systems, • operating systems and personal computers, • software used by the libraries • the presentation of the results of a research showing the level of readiness of: • main computer systems • academic libraries and • their main suppliers of software and hardware In the course of the speech an on-line test will be carried out, so that the level of compatibility of a PC can be defined. Methods of achieving and maintaining compliance with the use of software and hardware will also be compared. As the new millennium approaches, emphasis should be laid on the alternative emergency plans of action, so that a state of readiness is achieved "before 1/1/00".
