  • The present work aim has to present activities and operations of libraries, electing concrete examples of Greece and abroad, for the confrontation of phenomenon of digital Divide and inequalities that exist in the Information Society. Three units constitute the work. The first unit is reported in the definition of significance of digital exclusion and in dimensions of phenomenon in world, European and national level. The Digital Divide is reported a) on issues material and technical infrastructure and b) on issues use of Internet. The presentation of situation is also strengthened with the existence of relative statistical data that shows the demographic teams that are unable they watch the developments in the space of Information. Communications Technologies. The libraries are considered the suitable institutions that guarantee the right of ecumenical access in the citizens, because the mission and their organisation in international level. 'n the second unit are examined the problems of access and mainly use of Internet that faces the wider demographic team, users of libraries. From the side of academic libraries it does not suffer problem of material and technical infrastructure, with result the bigger percentage of academic community has the possibility of access on Internet. The academic community presents itself familiarized with the use of new technologies, however is located the problem that has a big percentage of students in the use of internet in regard to the localisation and pumping of information that is related with the follow-up of their study. Concretely it is realised by the workers in the Greek academic libraries that a big part of mainly second cycle students they use the internet as means of amusement and access in doubtful quality web pages. By the side of Public libraries of country (Dimosies and Dimotikes), is located initially the problem of lack of suitable material and technical infrastructure that renders problematic or even non-existent the possibility of access in the internet. The users of public libraries because the bigger percentage of their users and the inhomogeneousness that present as total face different problems with regard to the use of internet concerning the wider academic community. The informative needs of users of Popular libraries vary not only concerning the age, the sex and the educative level, but also with the geographic band. In the third unit is given accent in the presentation of operations and action of libraries (academic and popular) through concrete examples of Greece and abroad. Indicatively are reported the examples of Library of Agriculture University of Athens On Line Reference Desk, the Public Central Library Corfu - Centre of Information and Municipal Library of Helsinki - Ask a Librarian that accomplish, with their different services they give essential help in users that are unable they locate the information that them interests. The contribution of these libraries is not limited only in the subjects of material and technical infrastructure and free access on Internet, but particular interest presents the way of confrontation of informative needs of users. Conclusions: This work presents the phenomenon of digital exclusion that his repercussions exclude a big part of Greek society from the use of new technologies. The libraries (academic, public) have the possibility of constituting the main institutions for the familiarization of their users with the use of Internet, through concrete services that are included in new planning for the wider access in the knowledge and in the information. The proposed services can be applied from the majority of Greek libraries. The presentation of examples is supported in statistical data and in research of libraries on the spot. The work hopes it contributes in the enrichment of almost non-existent Greek bibliography for the relation of libraries with the digital exclusion.
