- The EFQM Excellence Model and the ISO 9000 family of standards adopt the principle of process approach to management, promoting a horizontal vision of the organizations in front of the customary functional approach. They are reviewed, in accordance with the ISO 15489 standard, the too generalist outlook of the EFQM Model and the simplistic perspective that presents the records management as a mere support for the quality management systems. Records management is a business process with proper entity –indispensable to base the decisions on facts and information and to have evidence of the realized activities – that “crosses” diverse functions and areas of management of an organization. Finally there are analyzed some consequences that the process management model has for the records management, in particular for the creation of classification schemes (file plans), the application of appraisal criteria that affect the preservation and disposal of records, and the need to establish performance indicators.
