- Establishing the institutional repository and making the research results of the institution available worldwide benefits the institution, the researcher and society. Determining the steps for building an institutional repository and customizing the operational standards and the protocols is therefore a most important task for any institution. To this end, ANKOS (Anatolian University Libraries Consortium) Open Access and Institutional Repositories Working Group (AEKA) has prepared a guide for administrators and librarians who will be involved in the process of establishing the institutional repository. The main steps for establishing an institutional repository are: Determining an archive policy; mandatory archiving policies; archiving policy of the content; repository standards; metadata and OAI-PMH compliant Institutional Repository software; digital preservation and conservation; intellectual property right management; cost and staff; workflow for implementing the institutional repository; OAI-PMH compliant institutional repositories in the World and in Turkey.
