- This work has to be with the goal to describe some necesities wich professionals of information must to attend to design, to implement and to administrate digital libraries. This descriptive research develops in the next aspects: 1) electronic collections evolution and digital libraries; 2) development, maintenance and access to the electronic collections; 3) digital reference services, perspectives and challenges for the professionals of information; 4) challenges for the digital libraries and the roll of the professionals of information. Some conclusions: there are more demand for on-line services (internet) than access to public libraries. This fact require attention of professionals of information to design and implement digital libraries services, without forget specific needs users.
