Daftar Isi:
- Electronic publishing can be defined as the distribution, archiving and retrieval of "documents" through electronic media and/or networks. Although electronic mail was first used in the first half of 1960s, the use of electronic publishing in scientific communication is relatively new. Some researchers do not consider e-publishing as an appropriate medium to publish the results of serious scientific research. On the other hand, publishers do not wish to limit their market to only those readers who possess certain kind of technology, and they seem to be reluctant to take risks until the economic models in e-publishing are fully in place. Furthermore, several issues in relation to e-publishing such as intellectual property rights, archiving, etc. create heated discussions among researchers, publishers, and librarians. This paper touches upon some general issues in electronic publishing and discusses some of the technological, economic and archival developments, and the likely impact of such developments on information services.
