- An analysis is made on the development of the public library in Cuba between 1959 and 1989. The political, economic and socio-cultural factors influencing the most on the evolution of the libraries in the country during the studied period are stressed. The links between the environment and the internal life of the public library reveal the advances and results reached by this entity in three significant phases of their development that defined their formation, boom and consolidation as an information unit.
