- Csic databases on the internet. Most bibliographical data bases have a thematic coverage, and they can be specialized or multidisciplined, but very few gather the full scientific production of a country, as is the case of the data bases produced by the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), in Madrid, that are multidisciplinary data bases that gather the published scientific production in specialized journals published in Spain since 1975. The data bases produced by the CSIC: ICYT (Science and Technology), ISOC (Social and Human Sciences) and IME (Bio-medicine) are widely known and used and they are distributed on line by Computer Technical Centre (CTI) of the CSIC since 1989. In 1990 they were, along with the data base ISBN, the first bibliographical databases published on CD-ROM in Spain. Later, in 1997, they were accessible through a gateway (URL: http://bddoc.csic.es:8085/). ICYT and ISOC data bases are produced by CINDOC (Scientific Information and Documentation Centre) of the CSIC; and database IME (Spanish Medical Index) by the IHCD (Institute of History of Science and Documentation “Lopez Piñero”), mixed center of the University of Valencia and the CSIC. At present, CSIC data bases fulfill their main objective, that is to spread the published scientific production in Spanish journals. This is demonstrated by the noticeable increase of its use via Web. Near of a 70% of the total use corresponds to searches made in the ISOC database.
