- Web positioning: concepts and life cycle. We present the main results of a study carried out between 2003 and 2004 dedicated to determine the conceptual bases of web positioning like a new activity tied to Library and Information Sciences (LIS). To accomplish this study we followed this procedure: 1) the theoretical production on this subject was examined exhaustively. 2) a positioning test-campaign was made with two sites related to LIS and its evolution was controlled throughout year 2003. Finally, a study was made on the web positioning market, analysing the web sites of the main companies that offer positioning services in Spain and the United States. In diverse phases of the study, the intermediate results were discussed in various forums, mainly in the Documentation Workshop that is a part of the activities of the Group of Digital Document Research of the IULA (University Institute of Applied Linguistics), Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Barcelona, Spain.
