- This report is one of the 5 parts of which the MSStudy II (second Member States Study is made up on the "Situation of the markets of the electronic information in the countries of the European Economic Area". This document refers exclusively to Spain. MSStudy is subsidized to 50% by the Info2000 programme of the DGXIII of the European Commission (EC). The Spanish part of the study has been carried out by the Statistical Institute of Catalonia, in collaboration with Asedie-Cindoc, the institutions that form the Spanish node of Midas. It is the result to integrate 28 questionnaires answered by 29 Spanish experts who have years of experience in the sector of the information, being most of them are well known by their analyses and previous works --, they come from very different areas as public administrations, big and small companies, universities, specialized research centres, journalists, etc. Their opinions have been interpreted, grouped and re-elaborated in two stages, and the second one has received the approval or conformity of the participants. Following the guidelines of the German team that manages MSStudy, a reduced panel was chosen with the purpose of making a study more qualitative than quantitative. This survey always talks about the “market” of the information. That is to say, non-free information that users are prepared to pay. In principle it is excluded, then, the free information produced by the public administrations. Information services funded indirectly by advertising (of which in Spain there are or some cases, far to be financed to the 100%) also are considered, the study is based on the information services paid by the users, be them institutional or individuals.
