- The factors directly related to content interoperability in e-learning platforms are analysed. Some outstanding standarisation initiatives in the field e-learning content management are referred. The importance of metadata interoperability in the context of digital libraries is pointed out as an important aspect for heterogeneous content integration. Content management techniques and technologies in e-learning are presented from a electronic knowledge managemenet approach, and it is fostered the usage of open software and open formats, XML technologies, metadata, classification systems, ontologies, topic maps, and some key factors affecting content usability and accessibility.
