  • The adventure of the printing press has been continuing since it was started by Gutenberg in 15th century. Although in earlier times its acceptance was different in both western countries and Ottoman Empire, the development of printing press was affected by the political, economical, cultural and religious structure of the societies. Therefore, the life of this invention which has been serving people for almost 550 years is like an adventure. In this paper, the historical development of the printing press in Europe, Ottoman Empire and Republic of Turkey will be examined by starting the period of movement from manuscripts to press techniques. Besides, it will be focused on the effects of this process on cultures and libraries of societies.
