- Several consortium members of the Austrian Library Network would be interested in the use of authority files for specialized classification schemes. In the realm of mathematics the generally accepted scheme is the MSC (Mathematics Subject Classification, also known as AMS Classification; AMS = American Mathematical Society). The authors conducted a pilot project in order to test a newly designed authority file for the consortium-wide use of this scheme, using the Aleph 500 library automation software. The experiences made can also be used for future applications (classification schemes, thesauri). This presentation gives an overview of the first prototype authority file for the MSC.
