- The article reports on the implementation of features for cataloguing non-latin characters of original language materials into the central and local catalogues of the Austrian Library Network. This was made possible when version 14 of the Aleph 500 library software started supporting the Unicode character set. In the first instance, CJK (East Asian character sets) as well as Hebrew and Cyrillic encodings have been dealt with. In spite of a newly introduced MAB field (671) a different solution was found that provides for more efficient cataloguing. The authors present details on the technical solution and examples from cataloguing and OPAC.
