- This article shows the similarities of the areas under study namely Information and Competitive Intelligence in Industries and Business by means of brief revision of literature. It presents the most frequently equal importance of these areas to the corporate sector. It defines the main objectives of Competitive Intelligence and its use in companies and organizations and widely revises the studies on Information for Industry and Businesses and its concepts as far as the field of Information Science is concerned. It presents the results of a research carried out in 2001, verifying the use of sources and types of information tailored for the Industries and Business in the industrial sector. One conclusion is that these areas have a lot in common mainly regarding the collection, storage and dissemination of information, aiming at supplying companies with information for short-term decisions as well as for long-term strategic planning.
