- Since several years fashion and future of scholarly publication are again major topics amongst scientists, publishers and librarians. Quite a few of them are lobbying Open Access Publishing as a loopehole from the current situation backed by the BBB-Deklarationen (Budapest, Bethesda, Berlin). Open Access (OA) stands for public domain access to scholarly papers via internet free of charge for all users. Two ways are suggested to reach that goal. Firstly the Golden Road to OA by publishing papers in Open Access Journals. Secondly the Green Road to OA by self archiving papers in institutional repositories. The presentation will focus on topics hitherto less disscused in the debate over OA: Impact of OA conferences, role of OA lobbyists, vehemency of the OA debate, the journal crisis, austrian and international highlights on the Golden Road to OA, actual state of BioMed Central memberships in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, commercial publishers' hybrid models of OA, cost estimation for three austrian libraries for implementing commercial OA, Green Road to OA.
