- The European Space for Higher Education has opened a new teaching framework, centred on learning, the active role of students and the importance of acquiring competencies for developing the capacity for learning throughout one’s life. University libraries can become an essential component of this model of learning by training students in the acquisition of information competencies needed now in their coursework as well as in their future professions. A double challenge exists: collaborating in the training of future graduates and, at the same time, adopting methods for active learning. In recent years, librarian trainers of the Library and Documentation Service (SBD) have received training from the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) on new pedagogical methods: individual methods of resolving and group verification, co-evaluation, tools such as «webquest», problem-based learning, the student’s learning dossier, etc. In this presentation some of these methods will be discussed - namely those that have been put into practice in training activities offered for credits by UPC libraries. The results in terms of learning and student satisfaction have been excellent and make it apparent that these innovative teaching methods are quite valid for acquiring information competencies. .
