- Documentation has now an history of its own and effectively belongs to the information science field. Technologies have a deep impact on librarians and information scientists and the definition of documentation itself has changed. The concept of documentation as a part of the information field is extended to Records Management or to Knowledge Management. This article shows the historical evolution of the word "documentation", mainly in France, and illustrates the changes in the current work of a librarian.
