  • Means used to generate and deliver information have dramatically changed. Printed information resources have been supplemented with new resources or information entities in diverse formats. Likewise, the amount of information that currently is produced has exponentially grown. Moreover, new library paradigms, like the electronic library, the digital library, and the virtual library, have emerged. All the above mentioned have repercussions on the activities that libraries carry out, one of them being the organization of information and catalog production. This new setting for information resources has brought on a revaluation of the importance and necessity of information organization, but also, to rethink the forms and ways used to carry it out. This document approaches some of the problems and challenges involved in the organization of new information resources or entities in the new library environment.
