- The document describes the issues related to periodicals according to: frequency problems, lack of bibliographic control, limited distribution and promotion, language barriers, as well as the low publishing rate of researchers in local journals. The scarce representation of Latin American journals is also described based in an analysis performed using unam’s Hemeroteca Latinoamericana, latindex, seriunam, as well as conacyt's Indice de Revistas Mexicanas de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica. Likewise, an analysis on the type of editorial houses that publish Latin American journals included in conacyt's Index is presented.
