- The production of digital contents of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has started a rapid growing of repositories distributed accross its different branches. These repositories have been created with different purposes, diverse types of resources and heterogeneous technologies. The current needs for education and research demand a more efficiet access to the resources, through its sharing and to create compatible systems that communicate with each other. Besides, to emphasize the UNAM's intellectual production archived in these repositories so it will have a better dissemination and impact in the community. These needs are present in diverse organizations worldwide and different efforts and standards are being developed to collaborate in a better management of the digital resources. The integration of a network with these repositories is an activity that requires standarization of a core of coexistence of complex environments, since these repositories are found distributed in the university branches (schools, departments, and so on), the technologies employed for each system are different, the standards of classification and cataloguing are heterogeneous, the type of resources that they contain is diverse, furthermore, each of them manages their own growing criteria and access policies. To collaborate in an use more efficiet of the Information Technologies within the UNAM, with the innovation of technologies and developement of systems which favor the use and dissemination of the resources being produced, it has been proposed to carry out a research project, with the purpose to obtain a model to the creation of a Red de Repositorios Universitarios de Recursos Digitales (3R) (Network of University Repositories of Digital Resources, 3R), that allows the interoperability among the different repositories at UNAM. As a result of this research project it will be obtained a cutting edge technology and standards for the development of institutional repositories, and besides to develop a prototype to probe the viability of its implementation as well as to evaluate the expected results. **translated by Z.Muela**
