- The integral formation of students of the library science programmes requires a complete cultural baggage in order to give them an optimal professional development. The schools play a very crucial role in this process. In this sense students could acquire throughout their professional formation an holistic and solid overview of the discipline, not only in their competition area, but also of all political, economic, social and cultural issues that surround their context. This paper presents the results of a study carried out with students of the first and seventh semesters of the Library science programme in the National School of Library and Archive sciences. The objective of the study was to corroborate the cultural capital level the students have at the begining of their professional studies and how it increases as they conclude their career. The results show that they keep the same level at the end of the career.
