- The paper describes the development and evolution of the "Union Catalogue of Periodicals in the Greek Scientific Libraries" as well as the structure and the operation of the Hellenic Interlibrary Loan Network. The technological infrastructures as well as detailed statistical data, concerning the transactions of the first four years of this collaborative activity, are presented. An estimation of the economic benefits expected from the exploitation of the remotely existing journal collections spread in mainly small libraries all over Greece is also attempted. The network started its operation in 1993 as a pilot project with 20 member libraries, while in 1997 the members were 97.
