- Information normalization has been a permanent preoccupation of the international librarian community. This essay gives a general overview of this situation focused on the catalographic practice. In its first part it makes a recount of the history of searching of new structures in the catalogues elaboration, by explaining the most important meetings and conferences in the topic; the second part explains in a general way IFLA’s minimalist proposal and its Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) model. A model that has been the base of the actual versions of AACR and ISBD.
