- The objective of this research report is to profile the major features, issues, problems and needs of the people from the community of Broomhall, in Sheffield, United Kingdom. It employs qualitative research as the main methodological approach and the qualitative methods of observation, interviews, focus groups, and documents including official statistics and census. The major community needs and/or community issues found (as of 18 October 2004) in Broomhall are these: * Housing development – demolishing & building – local residents being moved out. * Unemployment – abandonment of community. Drug addiction. * Health – heart and respiratory diseases (drinking, smoking, unhealthy food).* Multiculturalism – social exclusion. * Educational exclusion – due to linguistic barriers (about 60 languages are spoken in Broomhall). (NB: These are only preliminary results and should not be considered as definitive results of the project).
