- Indexing comprehends the subject analysis as one of the most important work phases of the indexer. The subject analysis aims to identify and select the concepts that represent the essence of a document. The identification of concepts, done during the documentary reading, comprehends additional effort of text comprehension. The difficulties met were the motivation to investigate by literature review, identification of concepts from the documentary reading, aboutness and conceptions of subject analysis. From the results obtained it is considered that the conceptions of analysis orientated to the content and to demand are decisive for good performance of the indexer during the reading to identify concepts as far as they are linked to the search through the text aboutness.
