- This article deals with antiquarian materials held by the university libraries in Spain’s Autonomous Communities of Andalusia, Extremadura and Murcia. Their collections are briefly described first and then each individual library’s rules and regulations are analysed since they are an important element for the preservation of these holdings. It was found out that the selected libraries for this study deal with this issue differently: some universities have drafted specific regulations to safeguard their book heritage while others include these issues within the general policies of the library. Virtual projects recently conducted to disseminate and facilitate access to antiquarian holdings are also mentioned. Lastly, conclusions are drawn and a bibliography is presented.
