  • This article reports the results of an IFLA Round Table on Women’s Issues-sponsored survey on the status of women in libraries worldwide. The research was conducted via a questionnaire distributed at IFLA 2001, Boston, and followed up by e-mail. Reports on the findings in relation to women’s contribution to society in the information age and the degree of respect afforded to them and to the profession generally. Questions whether there is a glass ceiling in operation in the information world, meaning that men reach higher positions sooner. Salary issues, qualifications and staff training and development issues are also examined. Highlights sectors reported on by respondents as exhibiting inequities and makes suggestions for further reading and additional research.
