- Library policy is defined within the context of the information society. To this end, the two facets of public policy having an influence on library policy development and conditioning its implementation are examined; namely, cultural policy and information policy. The rationales for the former being the provision of reading services for the public at large while for the latter the all-pervasive need for information modern society has.
