- The Government Information Locator Service, one of the latest technologies of information adopted by its strategic nature to solve the disorganization of Internet and the deficiencies of the search tools is presented. Based on the metadatum principle, this US standard offers a service to locate information that allows to discover, identify, describe and to accede directly to the information resources available in Internet starting from international standards of search and information exchange. Likewise, the Health Information Locator is made known. This is an application of GILS in the Latin American health sector, a project developed by the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Information System in order to meet the present needs derived from the introduction of the new paradigm of information system represented by Internet and to improve the efficiency of information retrieval.
