- The process of scientific and technological development generates products, services and information. The organizations should select, analyze and preserve the information. One of the activities that follows, in a structured and continual way, the different technical and scientific knowledge of the organization is the scientific-technological surveillance. One of the problems faced by this activity is the amount of data or variables influencing on the competitiveness of the organization and the need to use specific tools that allow their analysis. The patents’ own indicators are used aimed at giving the enterprises a tool that makes possible to keep a more oriented and truthful surveillance. The role played by patents in the process of technological development, the patents’ indicators and the tools facilitating the collection, processing and analysis of data, are explained. The MOBIS-ProSoft methodology is applied as an example. Starting from this practical application, the levels of technological activity, the technological fields, and their dynamics and visibility are identified and shown. To this end, statistical methods as the multidimensional scale-up, the analysis of clusters and the application of neural artificial networks (SOM Kohonen’s algorithm) are used.
