- The first arrangements carried out by Dominican friars between 1670 and 1717 to create, for the first time in Havana, a higher learning institution are related. Some details are provided on the organization and evolution of Havana University during the 115 years of its pontifical period (1728-1824). The steps carried out by Dr. Luis Felipe Le Roy Gávez starting form 1949 in order to find out the main document related to the history of the higher teaching center are referred to. The copy of the original document in Latin, retrieved in the Vatican, as well as the last Spanish translation of its text, appear in the article.
