- The international community developed tools for the creation of interoperable open archives which enhance the impact of research outcomes and the visibility of the institution that produce them. In 2002, to support Italian universities in this context, CILEA created AEPIC, a project of electronic publishing for the Italian universities which was developed in accordance with the principles of self-archiving, management of training material and thesis and publication of journals, reports of conferences and monographs. The aim of this journal article is to present the state-of-the-art of the project focusing, above all, on the first three fulfilments: 1. E-LIS, a disciplinary repository for librarianship and information science, 2. DSpace@UniPr, an experimental archive for human sciences didactics 3. a service platform for Italian open archives. In the end, there is an explanation of CILEA’s services for the implementation of repositories in the universities and research institutions.
