- It investigates the criteria for choosing metadata standards and software for institutional repositories for universities. Its theoretical assumption is technological changes, specifically those related to Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and the Open Access Movement, which have brought transformations in scientific production and communication. With an exploratory and descriptive character, it uses the bibliographic survey, and aims to contribute, based on the analysis of the criteria for the choice of metadata and software standards, for the management of electronic repositories in academic institutional repositories. It is concluded that the fundamental criteria for the choice of metadata and software standards for academic repositories are the institutional objectives and the information needs of potential users.
