- For this report, the contents of 50 randomly selected annual reports of public libraries for the year 2021 from the DACH region were evaluated. The libraries and the reports were very diverse. Some reports came from small, volunteer-run libraries in rural areas, others from metropolitan libraries. They mainly show what the libraries themselves considered relevant. The evaluation shows that public libraries in the DACH region operate in a relatively stable manner and can also demonstrate relatively good results. They take up topics from the specialist literature, but to a lesser extent. Rather, they are focused on reading promotion and literature work, on children and young people, and on physical media. Although this can be considered "traditional," the libraries thus provide relatively stable usage figures.
