- The War of Independence posed a serious risk for the manuscripts and printed materials stored in the Valencian archives and libraries. During 1811, a València threatened by the French launched plans to evacuate these assets to the Balearic Islands. The official plan, proposed by Antonio Cano Manuel and promoted from Cádiz by the Regency Council, would not materialize. However, initiatives carried out by religious communities would be successful, thus safeguarding a piece of the bibliographic and documentary heritage.
